  17th Annual Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society Meeting                   

LSU School of RNR was well represented at the 17th Annual American Fisheries Society Meeting. Faculty, undergraduate and  graduate students as well as RNR alumni were all participants in the 17th Annual Spring Meeting of the American Fisheries Society, January 15-18, in New Orleans, La.

Students

Graduate students Chris Bonvillain, Charles Brown, Raphael Cuevas-Uribe, Kayla DiBenedetto, Thorpe Halloran, Shauna Harris, E Hu, Melissa Fries, Douglas Kuenz, Peter Markos, April Newman, Noel Novelo, and Brian Ward presented their research.   Charles Brown, Raphael Cuevas-Uribe, Melissa Fries, Peter Markos, and Jonathan West also moderated sessions.  Catherine Murphy chaired and moderated a symposium.  RNR undergraduate Chris Algero staffed a booth representing the Aquaculture and Fisheries Club.  

Alumni

Alumni were well represented at the recent 17th Annual Spring Meeting of the American Fisheries Society, January 15-18, in New Orleans. Quenton Fontentot (B.S. 1993, M.S. 1997) served as General Meeting Chair and spearheaded the Organizing Committee.  R. Glenn Thomas (Ph.D.  1991)served on the Registration Committee, Organizing Committee as a LAAFS Past-President, and presented research. Mike Kaller (Ph.D. 2005) served as Program Chair, Abstract Editor, symposium chair, and presented research.  RNR alums Ann Commagere (B.S. 2006) , Glenn Constant (M.S.  1990), Kayla DiBenedetto (B.S. 2006), Craig Gothreaux (B.S. 2003, M.S. 2008), David Hickman (M.S. 1998), Douglas Kuenz (B.S. 2007), Brian Lezina (B.S. 1999), Ken Riley (M.S. 2002), John Supan (Ph.D. 1995), Rachel Walley (B.S. 2004, M.S. 2007) and Bill Wayman (M.S. 1996, Ph.D. 2003) presented research or assisted in running the meeting.  Many other RNR alumni attended the meeting representing their agencies and employers as well, including Jesse Bahm (M.S. 2007), Mike Campbell (B.S. 2008), Ross Hartfield (B.S. 2000), Brian Heimann (B.S. 2004), Dugan Sabins (M.S. 1973 and another LAAFS Past-President), and others that this author may have missed.

Faculty

RNR faculty were instrumental in the meeting serving in organization and as well as presenting high quality research.  Mike Kaller served as meeting Program Chair, Abstract Editor, symposium chair, and presented research.  R. Glenn Thomas served on the Registration Committee, Organizing Committee as a LAAFS Past President, and presented research.  Chris Green chaired an aquaculture symposium, served on the Programming Committee, and presented research.   The meeting was considered, if not the best, among the top Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society in their 64 years of hosting meetings.
